Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, commonly refereed to as TPL or Jak 1, is the first game in the action packed trilogy. This fantasy game follow a young mute boy named Jak, and the beginning of his many adventures.

The story opens with words of the wise old sage, Samos, master of Green Eco. In his words Samos opening many questions about the world, it's origins, it's life source, and most importantly the Precursors.

The origins of the world and everything in it lie in the knowledge of a fabled race of being that preceded everything that the worlds knows and created everything known to the world. This race, known as the Precursors, disappeared long ago, leaving behind all of their great work. No one knows who the Precursors were nor do they know where they went. Many have searched for answers, but all have failed.

However, as described by Samos, through a single act of disobedience the world may finally find the answers to the many riddles left behind by the Precursors. An adventure is about to begin, the world is at stake. Will a young boy from a small village discover the truth and save the world? Or will the world fall at the hands of a new evil that comes from the shadows of ignorance and power lust?

The adventure begins. Jak and his best friend Daxter board a small boat in the middle of the night and travel to Misty Island, a forbidden, baron island a short distance from the coast of Sandover Village. Upon landing on the island Jak and Daxter explore the area, only to stumble upon a gathering of a ruthless race of creatures know as Lurkers. These Lurkers stand waiting for the appearance of two powerful people, Gol and Maia, a brother and sister, masters of Dark Eco. Once appearing the siblings provide the Lurkers with their orders. Orders to contain the villagers of Sandover Village until the time to attack.

Jak and Daxter only witness a small portion of the gathering before going off to other parts of the island, however as they leave they are spotted by a single Lurker in the back row. This Lurker follows the duo to a large pool of Dark Eco, a substance that is unfamiliar to Jak and Daxter. When examining a piece of Precursor technology lying beside the pool Jak accidentally activates the object, but before they are able to take a closer look the Lurker rushes them. Building his courage Jak runs forward, throwing the Precursor artifact at the Lurker where is explodes upon impact. The shock wave of the blast throws Jak backwards into Daxter, knocking Daxter into the pool of Dark Eco. After a few stressful moments Daxter finally emerges from the Dark Eco, his body shrunken and transformed into a three foot tall rodent like animal known as an Ottsel.

After retuning to the village Daxter is provided with the unfortunate news that the only person in the world that could possibly turn him back is the Dark Eco Sage, Gol Acheron. However Gol lives far to the north of Sandover Village, so the duo set out in search of Gol in hopes that he'll be able to fix the changes to Daxter's body. Through their quest for the Dark Eco Sage the duo discover many things about the world in which they live and many things about themselves. They uncover a plot to transform the world with Dark Eco, with Gol and Maia at the head of it all.

After a long and strenuous battle Jak finally defeats Gol and Maia. Destroying they're Precursor robot, dropping them into the Dark Eco Silos that they had planned to empty upon the world.

   Eco

Eco is the life source and power of the world. It was created by the Precursors long before any knowledge can remember. Eco not only provides the energy needed to sustain life, it also contains vast amounts of power that can be tapped into by thoughts who know how, and a skilled eco wielder can use and take advantage of the many different powers and properties of each eco.

Eco can be found in many different forms and places. Eco like all things has different states of matter, and can be found in these different states of matter. The most common form of eco is in a liquid state, where it can either masses in thick, viscous pools or small globs clustered on the ground. The second form of eco is a gaseous state, in which the eco is found jetting upward from vents in the ground. Lastly eco is found in a solid state. However, in Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy a solid eco can only be found in one location and for only one eco.

Dark Eco: Dark Eco is the first eco that appears in the game. In the opening cute scene Daxter is knocked into a pool of it, which causes him to turn into an Ottsel. Dark Eco is the eco of change and destruction. This is a very dangerous and unpredictable eco. Exposer to it can either morph a person into something completely different, grant immense powers, or simply annihilate the person. It is advised to avoid this eco at all costs, even the slightest tough can be fatal. This is also the only eco that can be found in a solid state in Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. In Spider Cave there are five Dark Eco Crystals, these crystals are incredibly insatiable and contact with these crystals will cause them to explode.

Green Eco: Green Eco is the first usable eco presented to Jak. This eco contains powers of life and healing. When injured Jak is able to pick up Green Eco, if there is any near by, and heal any and all injuries dealt to him. However Green Eco is usually found in small amounts that will only be able to heal a small amount of Jak's injuries. So to heal a large amount of damage Jak will either have to gather many small pieces of Green Eco, or find a large amount of it gathered in one location.

Blue Eco: Blue Eco is the second usable eco presented to Jak. This eco contains the power of energy. Jak is able to use this eco to increase his speed for short periods of time. This eco also has the power to activate many different kinds of Precursor technology that is otherwise unusable, it can even attract some Precursor artifacts through the magnetic pull created from the electrical fields made by the eco.

Red Eco: Red Eco if first seen on Misty Island when Jak and Daxter return in search of Power Cells. This eco contains the power of strength. Jak is able to use this eco to increase his strength, allowing him to take down bigger and stronger enemies much quicker then in his normal state. He can also use this eco to create a small shock wave when diving into the ground, which can prove to be a useful attack when surrounded by enemies.

Yellow Eco: Yellow Eco is the final usable eco in the game. This eco contains the power to launch projectiles. Jak is able to thrust his hand forward, throwing a ball of the eco forward at a target. This eco is very useful for lowing enemy numbers of a large group while staying at a safe distance from the enemy.

White Eco: The name of this eco is a highly debated topic amongst the Jak & Daxter fan base. The name of the eco is only heard once in the entire game, when describing the eco Samos provides the name, which many hear as "Light" Eco and others hear as "White" Eco. My personal belief is that the name is "White" Eco, however the name hold no consequence to what the eco is nor what the eco does in the Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy game.

White Eco is only seen once, while battling Gol and Maia at the end of the game. After a long battle Jak finally weakens the Precursor robot that Gol and Maia are using to fight against Jak. Once Gol and Maia hold enough damage that they only need to be hit once more the Eco Sages step in to help in the fight. The four sages combine their power, fusing Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow Eco into one White Eco. Once Jak gathers a small amount of the eco he becomes "super charged" with power, and throws a ball of eco the same as he does with Yellow Eco, however the eco is white and much more powerful. With a single blast from the White Eco Jak destroys the Precursor robot, dropping the cockpit that contains Gol and Maia into the Dark Eco Silo below.
